The Last Action Hero
The last action hero is sleeping
The monsters he conquered are dead
But many more gather to face him
Surrounding his body in bed
His mind and his spirit are weary
He’s tired of running a lap
He’d rather not pay for tomorrow
By falling inside of a trap
The doctor has said that he’s dying
Our hero could pass any day
The bounty of love he was promised
Is already given away
The kids of Olympus are wasted
By robbers who took what they could
The monsters are winning the battle
To label the evil as good
The village is speaking against him
His future is already spent
The daughters of Eden are working
But nobody pays for the rent
The last action hero is finished
For nobody answered the call
The family is bitterly weeping
But not for the hero at all
The dragons of warfare are jealous
When heroes are hailed in song
The children are voicing their freedom
By claiming that daddy is wrong
The hero is dragged into heaven
His future is finally assured
His fortune is free of the children
For love is a challenging word.
