The Killing Fields

When children are used
As human shields
In war zones, identified
As killing fields
The reason behind it, you don’t
Have to guess
Human pawns … in a
Game of chess
Words cannot describe
The anguish I feel
As news of the atrocities,
Is reported to reveal
Innocent children,
Torn Limb from Limb
To further the cause
Of some fanatical whim
Prohibited from attempting
To stop this horror
We bow our heads
And pray for tomorrow
Israel and Palestine,
A conflict jamboree
Mankind in its lunacy,
Too blind to see
Hidden behind culture,
Religion and hatred
This kind of action,
Should not be tolerated
History has taught us
Over the years
That war brings nothing,
But bitterness and tears

A tragic fact of life that childhoods are being robbed by war and conflict. You have written about this horrific atrocity with such emotion. Good luck in the contest, it's a seven from me.

You hit the painfully rusty nail right on the head. It's a sad state of things, and is also mirrored in places like Africa with child soldiers fighting wars they should have never been brought into. thank you for sharing your heart.
