The Joke

Poor and ugly
married a prince
starting a joke
that made the world cry
I didn’t see the joke was on me
The prince was a frog
and I started to cry
making the world laugh
laugh as I cried
Oh if only I'd seen the joke was on me.
Beaten and desolate
on crooked path of lies
wealth piled up
in isolation high
crazed in mind
saddened in heart
I looked at the sky
hands over eyes
blinded by the light
piercing mind
unearthing secrets
couldn’t deny
fell off bed
my hands had made
hurt by truth
my head
I died
and the world lived
as I laughed with the gay
cried with the sad
because of light of love
in head and heart
I lived.
Worm eating dirt
looked at the sky
beat my butterfly wings
and the world.
followed lead.
