Notes About The Poem
The shataranja or Ashtapada games are typical Indian games now called Chess (line 1); the baily bridge is the highest bridge in the world (line 4); India is the world’s largest Democracy (line 5); the Vishnu Temple is the world’s largest religious pilgrimage destination (lines 6 & 7); India’s hindu calendar has 6 seasons: spring, summer, mansoon, Autumn, winter and prevernal (lines 8 & 9); 70% of all the world’s spices come from India (line 10); It is illegal to take the rupees out of India (line 11); Meghalaya is the wettest inhabited place in the world (line 12); women are unfortunately not fully regarded in India- from rape incidences to abortions solely due to female fetuses and even Dowry-related deaths (line 14)

The Jewel of World Spices

The inventor of the number system and chess; the originator of algebra, trigonometry and calculus; with the globe’s largest railway and postal network and second to none in the height of a bridge. We speak of the largest government of, for and from the people. Beats Israel, Egypt, Mecca, Rome and Greece in the number of religious visitors attracted to its shrines. The circumference of its seasonal experience is well partitioned into six segments. It is the major contributor in giving the world some spicing, its currency and sharing are very big antonyms while Meghalaya is confirmed to be the globe’s tongue. Even with these medals and accolades, it still struggles to give women enough warmth and comfort
