The Inheritance
Twenty-six laps of twelve months has turned the good in me into the food in me.
Demands are hungry in every corner of my sight,
but then I was built and raised to endure these fights.
Am not always right, but then I believe everyone must survive.
That is where the rope ties from my neck, running straight to the heads that crowd around my feet.
Every cold dawn and warm dusk brings me a mission to fulfill, waking up every morning putting my parents' grey cap on, but laying at night without my crown like that one little prince they once cherished while I whisper to my wife about the future of my inherited kingdom.
Daddy is back to dust, am now my mother's walking stick and specs.
Around me gather free people with no feelings, just freedom to education, health, food, and more on their wish.
Am now the tree that brings rain and their windbreaker at times and umbrella that stops their faces from getting wet.
I never knew math, but our royal king taught me some division before hiding his body in the darkest cave of eternal nap, and that small concept I play is what keeps everyone's teeth white.
Mommy raised no fool, she knows, but daddy knew I inherited his foolishness because our pockets never swell.
Every day we struggle hard.
Sometimes I become a little giant trying to correct a few mistakes around, hated by everyone, but they must unite while I provide so they can survive.
This is the game my king taught me, his queen now stays like a little kid knowing nothing and proud of those days she beat me as a toddler, now pulling the pride after her king's departure, but she never explained to me how my hands would touch every head at my in-laws' home.
Maybe this is a woman's secret, but it's a man's cross and his perfect inheritance.
