The In-Between Light

This morning the sky looked undecided--
a wide stretch of gray
with a few slow openings
where light tried to slip through.

Nothing dramatic.
Mixed weather that slows your steps without your noticing,
without knowing why.

As I walked,
my mood echoed the weather;
not down, not bright,
just in-between,
with a few thoughts I let be
for now.

A narrow strip of sunlight fell across the pavement,
warming one arm
while leaving the other in shadow.
It made me smile…
the way the world makes its partial choices
and keeps moving.

Perhaps this half-gray sky
is truthful in its way
a sky that shows
both the weight
and the light
at the same time.

That is really interesting, I love the way that day influenced this poem. Once we heard the rain pouring down in the front yard. We live in the desert, this is a big deal to us :) My little ones raced to the back yard to play in the rain, one or two drops of rain, back there, that was it! It was still raining out front! The house was small, in between a downpour and no rain! I like how you made this thought-provoking poem, and brought back that memory which none of us ever forgot :)

Thank you for sharing that memory. I can just picture your little ones chasing those rare drops. Amazing how a small moment like that stays with us forever..
