The Illusion of Me

I am the image you hold within..
But not necessarily what you see.
You can paint a canvas to any vision..
But in reality not the true inner me.

What you think you know is an illusion..
Imagination has made up your mind.
You've been blinded by the lies of others..
Truth be known I'm one of a kind.

I will never let my trueself escape me..
I've done that too many times before.
Only to be left heart broken and empty..
I wont allow myself the pain anymore.

So now I live in my secluded fortress..
It protects me from being your prey.
I am guarded from showing emotions..
My innocence was beaten away..

I will no longer be marked a victim..
I will never wear the shame.
You no longer exist in reality..
My memory forever erases your name.

Dear Derani. I like the honest tone and the lesson learn in the words. "So now I live in my secluded fortress.. It protects me from being your prey. I am guarded from showing emotions.. My innocence was beaten away.." The above lines. Powerful. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

Such a well-penned piece Derani, lovely rhyming flow with good imagery too throughout. I agree with Connie we are uniquely made in God's image and for his purpose so we should celebrate all of that. Hope you are well down under in Australia, Blessings from Scotland, Gordon

We can not let the perceived image of us by others be allowed to hurt us. We are unique and should celebrate that uniqueness. I enjoyed this beautiful poem that honors truth. Congratulations on your Second Placement Derani! Blessings xxoo
