The Human Sea - Weight of The Sky
The fish once dreamed of air.
It rose toward the trembling light,
a ghost against the shimmer
and for one breathless instant,
it saw another world.
The sea pulled it back down.
The weight of water pressed its truth,
reminding it of gills and law,
of depths it must obey.
So too, I climb through thinning blue,
lungs burning in their cage,
the ground a fading anchor.
Above me wings,
and silence vast as thought.
What keeps me from the sun?
What binds me to this gravity of blood?
The same great Breath, divided,
that gives the fish its sea
and me my sky.
Each of us
a dream trapped in a different element,
yearning for what the other knows,
both reaching,
both falling,
both alive.
