The Hound of Heaven

steps to reach the highest rung
a heart so full of the undone
we have been through miles but caused no pain
a given chance at which to rearrange
yet something deep inside beckons & draws me to come near
I shed a single tear to numb the inner pain
we break free and set sail onto the vast expanse of the day
are we humble enough to ever bow the knee to pray
the hound in heaven call us home
yet like a dog without its bone
we make the journey all alone
suffocated inside we tend to hide
shattered glass drifting from the dark memories of my past
we lay hold of the feeling hoping that it would last
to treasure a red rose that was plucked a time before
 savor each memory fondly
deep in my heart there is a memory
living in the land of make believe
one must be willing to achieve
to hold off shooting the gun in your hand
 hopefully someday you will understand
you can't go through life thinking what might have been
won't you help me my friend Lord Jesus
to trust in a power greater then self
never to give into the finish line without first an encounter with your silent partner
hound in heaven seeks you & me
leading us onward to sweet victory
