Notes About The Poem

The Hidden Nature Trail

The Hidden Nature Trail

While I was hiking one soft summer morn
beside a streamlet flowing through a dale,
I found a narrow nestled path unworn
which led me down a hidden nature trail.

I walked amongst the pine trees standing tall
along the hidden trail their shadows cast;
I heard a song bird chirp his mating call,
and reminisced sweet moments from my past.

The hidden path meandered far and near
and ended by a pond of sapphire blue
with splashing birds and water crystal clear,
and sirens bathing in the morning dew.

I wonder was this but a reverie,
or is it just my secret fantasy?

Dear John, this is such a breathtaking sonnet. Your skilled poetic words, imagery, drew the reader straight into the wonderful scene. I love the tranquil flow here, unhurried, like the nature walk itself. I can so easily visualise the trail, pine trees, the pond of sapphire blue (loved that especially!) The ending couplet is wonderful - such a joyful scene to behold that it would seem like a dream. I so enjoyed it and I’m also here to learn from you being the great sonneteer that you are.

Hi Christina, thank you for your wonderful comments, I am humbled; I am just a simple poet. I do enjoy writing sonnets and I hope you are able to take something away from it. I’m glad you enjoyed it. John

A dream, a fantasy... or just reality, for much of what you described exists in the world... Beautifully penned, John!

Sometimes hidden moments are tucked just out of view, but the heart knows where to look. I believe it's a secret fantasy, my dear friend. Your thoughts hold beauty, tenderness and romance. Many wonderful blessings to you. :) Hugs, Brandy

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and comments my sweet friend. Perhaps it IS a secret fantasy that’s always been hidden in the shadows of my mind. Hugs, John
