THE HEART OF ENGLAND

They mistook still water for something that breaks,
Never knowing the depth that silence can make.
We’ve walked through the winters that buried the weak,
Where courage spoke softly because talk was cheap.

The wind knows the voices that drift through these hills,
It carries their echoes where the silence kills.
They built without witness, they laboured without praise,
Then vanished like smoke into yesterday’s haze.

You don’t earn a homeland by shouting its worth;
You earn it by standing your ground in the earth.

With calloused hands they laboured till daylight was gone,
Leaving more than possessions for those coming on.
No trumpet announced them, no portrait was hung,
Yet the tale of their lives lived through every tongue.

The rivers run steady, the seasons move slow,
The roots hold the secrets that few ever know.
For strength isn’t measured by noise or display,
But by carrying burdens that never fade away.

An oak doesn’t bargain whenever winds rise,
It deepens its roots beneath darkened skies.
It bends with the weather but never gives in;
Its battle is quiet, yet always within.

Time wears every mountain and blunts every blade,
It humbles the mighty and darkens the brave.
Yet some things outlive all the years they endure—
A promise well kept and a heart that stays sure.

So when we are nothing but dust on the breeze,
May those who come after still stand by these trees.
May they look to the valleys, the rivers, the rain,
And know what was carried was never in vain.

For all that is lasting was never gained cheap;
It’s forged in the vows that determined souls keep.
Long after our footsteps are lost to the years,
May courage speak softly to those who stand here.

For England was never a thing we could own;
It lives in the fields where our forebears have sown.
In hedgerow and hillside, in river and rain,
In stories remembered through hardship and pain.

So long as these valleys still answer the dawn,
And old oaks stand watch where the weary have gone,
We’ll carry her forward with steady resolve—
Not yielding to time, but refusing to dissolve.

For home is not lost while its heart beats in us;
It lives in the quiet, the faithful, the just.
When the last of our footsteps are claimed by the years,
May the wind tell our story to those who still hear.

For as long as the rivers still carve through the land,
And one soul still stands with the soil in his hands,
The old hills will whisper what time can’t erase—

England was loved.
England remains.
