The Hardest Words

The hardest words

I remember,
the day I met you...
All those years ago,
I remember,
the smile you gave me...
My heart was all aglow

I remember,
I couldn't believe that,
your eyes,
would reflect in mine,
I was so lost and alone, but
you found me...
just at the right time

It was always,
so hard to tell you
the words,
I wanted to say...
but, my love for you,
was so strong...
I found the strength,
to say them any way

I love you,
was so hard to say
the first time that I told you
I was afraid,
you wouldn't feel it,
feel the same way too

Chorus

I remember, the hardest words
I remember, the I love you's
I remember, the hardest words
sorry was one of them too, but
the hardest word, I could ever say,
I couldn't say it ...even if I tried
Yes, the hardest word, I could tell you
was that awful word... goodbye

I remember that day, we argued
It was oh, so many years ago
I had to tell you, that I was sorry
I was so foolish, that much I know

You said that you forgave me
that was the best thing I ever heard
That was the hardest day of my life
and sorry was the hardest word.

Chorus

I remember, the hardest words
I remember, the I love you's
I remember, the hardest words
sorry was one of them too, but
the hardest word, I could ever say,
I couldn't say it... even if I tried
Yes, the hardest word, I could tell you
is that awful word... goodbye

Your body just grew weaker,
weaker, with the passing of time
So many years we spent together
Guess your song just ran out of rhyme

Bridge

Now I don't know just... what to do
Tell me, what do I do now...without you

Chorus

I remember, the hardest words
I remember, the I love you's
I remember, the hardest words
sorry was one of them too, but
the hardest word, I could ever say,
I couldn't say it...even if I tried
Yes, the hardest word, I could tell you
is that awful word... goodbye

Repeat chorus
fade

John, this is an excellent song and poem. Gah - I hate goodbyes! This poem is a crucial strike. I'm not even sure why I wrote that last sentence. Hits me right down the center of the brain, I guess.

Yeah, it's sad, but I don't think any amount of beer will help this poor fella. Thanks for the stop by visit and comment!

It's amazing how sad songs affect us more than happy songs. They seem to find a permanent place in our psyche and from then on for life, it just takes one word, one note to bring us back. This is such a song John.:-) Very sad emotions, beautifully expressed. Exceptional writing. blessings, lynn

Really sad John, this one is a tearjerker of a slow song. The kind of song one gets lost in and emotional over. Nicely done.
