The Hardest Thing I’ve Done
Motherhood is the hardest thing I’ve done.
Some days it feels like I can’t see the sun.
Every day there is always something new—
The demands, the clinging—where is the clue?
Is it worth the energy and feeling so blue?
Some days I’m drowning, but I still push through,
My stomach in a bind from things I never knew.
It’s hard and challenging—I’m left wondering,
My eyes full of tears while I lie here pondering.
Through all of the hardships, the reward is pure bliss.
Those feelings melt away instantly with their kiss.
There are so many small things I want to remember.
Little moments in time that are oh so tender.
The smell of their soft round heads fills my heart,
Laughing at their faces when a berry is too tart.
The sound of their hands and feet on the floor,
Getting louder, faster, as they run to the door.
Intoxicating laughter as we fall to the ground,
The unexpected hugs when no one’s around.
While it’s still the hardest thing I’ll ever do,
The rewards outweigh the struggle—that much is true.
They grow up so fast—I wish time would slow:
From crawling to talking, then running the show.
Broken pieces I once had, they made brand new.
There’s nothing in this world I wouldn’t do.
I wanted them, now need them—can’t you see?
I am exactly where I am supposed to be.
At night when it’s quiet, my thoughts start to pray:
Will they still love and need me one day?
I hope they’ll always want me to stay—
For holidays, celebrations, all chapters of life.
They are my purpose, more than just being a wife.
They’ve made me who I am and pulled me from hell.
I’d drop anything for them at the ring of a bell.
One day I’ll be old and they won’t need me as much,
But for now I am grateful—thankful for such.
These kids are my world, my moon, my sun,
And still—motherhood is the hardest thing I’ve done.
