The Hardest Foe
Fleeting shadows across the light
Silent pools of inky black
Moving at the edge of sight
Motion upon an exposed back
Stalking you like the jungle cat
Prowling through subconscious mind
Shredding assurance bringing doubt
None of your temperament left to find
Transformed assuredly to guarded wreck
Mistrustful of the now darkening world
Timorous glances across a bowed back
Like a young deer in a primal world
Existence now a most fearful task
Little by little your back is stooped
This mortal enemy is hard to track
Self is doubt the hardest of all foes
