The Guilty Father

Lying in a prison cell bed, she hoped all fear and the secret would vanish
The night of her wedding forgotten now that she had killed her father in law

The horrors that curse her dreams this night
       awakes her with bleeding tears
                burning scars into cheeks

Despairing at the glow of the silver lit moon
Not wanting to stir the monsters that taunt
Nor the memories of guilt that surely will haunt
For in the dark lie secrets that loom

Revenge did not ease
       The pain of violation
                The Tyrant she killed
                        Her husband still unaware
                                His father, the guilty one

Laura, I initially smiled at the second line thinking about how many people say they want to kill their in-laws, but it is obviously a serious subject you have written so eloquently about. Dark secrets in someones dark life, well done.

Not a big fan of TV but from your description it is a very good write, Laura. We just don't realize how fortunate we are to live in a free country. I enjoyed the explanation and then I thoroughly enjoyed your well written poem. Good luck in contest.
