The Great Plains

The Great Plains Vast expanse of land, Virginal, pure, and yet shaped by man’s hands, A rich and lustrous corn carpet, An open land with distant horizon Where man’s green fields and nature’s blue sky meet Cows and deer fearlessly frolic On man’s earth, bucolic With the long spidery electrical wires, The tall water sprinkler towers That the cornfield requires Lone truckers headed to distant cities, With microwaves, shoes, juice boxes, and other nitty-gritties Loaded with goods of everyday need, Unable to ignore this picture painted by man Cruising at a ginger speed In this isolation, man’s cares are forgotten, He abandons his city life rotten Incredible peace gently seeps, The deep, satisfying solitude For an eternity in his mind he keeps He will again roam the vast land with a new sense of freedom, Re-live his life as sacred Such are the magnanimous Great Plains of this wondrous land, Which bring tears to my eyes Dumbstruck, on this land of numerous possibilities I stand. _____________________________________________________________ Inspired by a cross-country Amtrak trip from New York City to Kingman, AZ

I want to use it for a college project as a bucolic poem. The Romans came up with the idea for this type of poetry and I'm trying to relate it back to today. Your poem is a great example of it and I would love to use it if allowed. If I put in my project, I would like to give you credit as citing

Hi Jan, Yes, it was fun. The cross country in an Amtrak cabin is mostly out of reach, therefore cannot be repeated too often. R

Ritu,Welcome to Poetry soup, I hope you enjoy the community. Here, you will find friendly poets who enjoy supporting one another. I myself, enjoy reading and commenting those who want to be read. The only time I give constructive criticism is when a poet desires it. However, if for some reason the poem is not my field I will guide you to someone who is more qualified than I. Stop by and read one of my poems if you like. My poems are not perfect, but I have a feeling you might like one. I encourage you to check out the contest page and read to receive comments. Tell me a little about your poetic skills if you like. It will be my pleasure to follow and read every poem you post from here on :) We are Lucky To Have you. Your New Poet Friend @-> LINDA <-@

Hello Poet Destroyer, Thanks for stoping by and welcoming me to the community. I am looking for tips on how to get published, online and offline. Two of my poems have recently been selected for publication in poetry journals, and I would like to keep going. Many thanks, Ritu
