The Great Minds of Old

Is it Shakespeare no that is the most celebrated among all poets,
That among all, his are the best of all sonnets?
Did I not know him from his Juliet and Romeo?
And is it no thus I fell in love with Angel?
Some say Milton was born somewhere in England;
But none ever confirms from where he carried out his poetic errand!
Many to this day say he was great,
And to this I agree with all my heart!

Was it not Robert Southey that wrote 'Bishop Hatto'?
That crazy 'man of God' who roasted the poor like maize in a battle!
Was it not Southey who quoth, 'the great minds of old'?
And didn't tears of gratitude in that behold?
William Henry Davies; in 'the fog' hes blind!
What a paradox that was contained in that his great mind!
Davies knew about leisure; 'if life full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare!'

Alexander Pope; 'Heaven from all creatures hides the book of fate
Apart from this, all their prescribed state!'
Did he not say we are all blind about the future?
And a sparrow or man, who is the greater creature?
But it hurts to talk about John Keats!
At his young age, and his soul already roaming on those black streets!
Was he not the one who 'traveled in the realms of gold'?
So young, but his grave under some beautiful flowers lies, I've been told!

William Wordsworth, oh that great poet of nature!
Nature our lives has to nurture for us to add stature;
But he's also gone, just like my Tracey!
Gone, maybe on the for Grey Lucy;
That solitary living
Who many a winter ago lived so called!
It's thus we have to leave our books,
And let nature be our teacher, if we want to clear our looks!

The great minds of old from Romeo and Juliet my reading began;
Then to Ceasa's palace did I get to know his murder again.
A life full of work and little leisure for care;
Davies, 'if full of care, we have no time to stand and stare!'
Is it not God from us hid the future?
And why should a sparrow or man be the greater creature?
Is it not 'the great minds of old',
That Keats was troubled about during his 'travel in the realms of gold'?
