Notes About The Poem

The Great Horned Owl

I saw a beautiful great horned owl today while out on my nature walk
He was sitting proudly while snapping his bill and deeply hooting at me
And watching me so intensely from his predatory eyes with piercing gawks
I was delighted until I saw bloody skeletal remains under his tree

Your poem has such striking imagery! Love it, Tania!:-) Where do you live? Wish I could spot any owl out in nature here in Baltimore, lol. Such magnificent birds. I only see them in captivity...or hear them once in a blue moon...

Thank you Ed, it is fictional poem but I have seen a few owls over the years. I live in the North East.

wow what a descriptive poem and i guess its survival of the fittest and the bird still needs to eat to survive. I would love to see an owl in the wild, not seen one since I was a small child and we had a family of 5 tawny owls living in our tree:-) hugs jan xx
