The Glory of a Senseless War
I approached the building again as always
wearing wires concealed by my unborn child
hunger returned while I feasted on raw
celery sticks and half eaten chicken bones
I'd wonder where exactly I belonged here
among the fallen the dead beings reaching
for honor in a forgotten world where stars
and stripes stare down at humility
while a sudden flush of freedom simply
takes your breath away panting occurs
as air becomes a personal diamond mine
prepared for the willingly to die spies seeking
solace behind enemy lines of stolen dog tags
of rewritten survival skills sending chills of fear
in a childlike expression covered beneath
wartime benefits and maritime housing corporation
tainted beyond the meek the weak who reaps
for us in a senseless notion of where home was found
after we return to glory shores and meaningless
emotional balance trapped in tomorrow's yesterday
