The Girl She Tried To Hide

Broken underneath, worn and trembling, unnoticed all the while For one to understand, meant to catch the slight of hand, that painted on her smile 'Cause she'd pretend to be, what you wanted to believe to forget the pain inside Longing to be whole, she would sell her soul, to feel safe from time to time So, on and on she went, and every day she spent, some piece she should have kept Hiding there behind, the facade and the disguise, she could not disguard just yet So, every day that passed, was always like the last, she often wondered why Until she learned to see, that it was fine to be, the girl she tried to hide 'Cause lurking there unseen, had been her memories, and mistakes that she had made But hidden deep inside, the truth denied the lie, that she should be ashamed So, she learned to be ok, with just who she was today, and whom she'd always been She opened up her eyes, she breathed for the first time, and the past became her friend 'Cause each tear that ever slipped, from eyelid to her chin, had somehow washed away The pain that she had known, reveal the mercy she'd been shown, and taught her love along the way And though she may never know, how she could ever go, from ashamed to finally free She opened up her arms, she laid down all her guard, and embraced the mystery
