The Girl I Use To Be

Life has a way of taking More from us than time It Reaches out and robs us Of a love that we once knew Day and years roll by As silence filled the air I remember reaching for you But you weren’t there I was lost and lonely With only a bottle to keep me warm Now Standing there before him As he looked into my eyes I knew he could see into My cold heart and darkened soul I realized in that moment What the whiskey had taken from me For the girl I use to be He just couldn’t see there anymore When trust was torn apart Sometimes it never mends Words can’t repair the damage Wrongs cant be made right Sorry echoes forever Somewhere in the night Still longing in my heart For the kids we use to be When our love was all that matter To you and me I reached out for you All I could do is watch you leave Lost and lonely I turned to the only thing that comforts me And I knew in that moment what the whiskey had taken from me for the girl I use to be I would never be anymore
