Notes About The Poem

The German Christmas Market

The German Christmas market was in town
Stalls emptying fast and looking quite bare
Last minute shopping before it closed down
T'was Christmas eve seems everyone was there .

A cold wind blew with flakes of snow falling
Kids in the square, carols they were singing
In the distance the church bells were ringing
On market stalls the lights they were twinkling.

The tree in the square with a star so bright
Folks drinking mulled wine to keep out the chill
The Oompah band were playing silent night
And everywhere smiles, laughter and good will.

T'would be wonderful if all this good cheer
Was every day and not just once a year.

A delightful slice of Christmas celebration - goodwill, joy and good cheer for our weary world. Have always wanted to go to these Christmas fairs. Now you have whetted my appetite again! Thank you for your timely sharing and congratulations on your winning placement! Over Fork Over.

My friend, very fine verse and so true is what a wonderful world it would be if humanity could live and act year round as some do during the Christmas season. Your closing couplet a perfect summation... A fav, an inspiring gem as well..

Wouldn't it just Tom! Everywhere and everyone is in a hurry, why - Make Christmas from November and then maybe in December we could all only enjoy the religious part of these festivities!

Great message in your closing couplet, Tom, it’s a shame some people are only kind and generous around the holidays. John

Thanks John, I suppose people are more relaxed around holiday time but it costs nothing to make an effort the rest of the year. Tom

Love the Christkindlmarket! Mulled wine in a souvenir mug :) Atlanta has a “snow” show every hour for the kids! I had my grandson make snow angels in the flakes

Thanks Kim, nothing beats mulled wine when its cold, kids seem immune to the cold, lovely to see them enjoying it though. Tom
