The Gentleman Born To Late
He uses manners, and portrays grace,
without reciprocation,
to those who respect him,
and those who don't.
He asked me why people are so negative to him,
when he is only what he can be,
a product of etiquette of times past and forgotten.
His giving nature attracts those around him,
some sincere,
some who take advantage.
They take his kindness for granted,
like it was owed to them and entitled,
not the true gift he gives for no reason.
He asked my advice,
so this is what I said,
Measure them to a standard of respect,
and compromise only by choice,
to keep your identity undiluted,
your heart safe from injury.
