Notes About The Poem

Silent Ones- contest-7/8/26

The Garden of Earthly Delights

The painting-The Garden of Earthly Delights
the painter- Hieronymus Bosch

This three paneled painting depicts
the mind and heart of human morality
on the weighted scales measured through time
where the magnitude of spiritual justice lies in the halls of temptations
from The Garden of Earthly Delights that overwhelm
the soul's sense of passionate desires from illusions
of enchanted pleasure that is all consuming
as dreams of The Garden of Eden haunt the dreams and wishes
of a long-forgotten paradise that echo in the silent tomorrows
when the head is bowed in prayer seeking amnesty
for the sin of spiritual abandonment that lies between Heaven and Hell
yet, for those whose sins cannot be absolved
their souls will dwell in a pit of perpetual depraved darkness
dripping evil from their tortured flesh, tortured
by the clinging claws of their pain-filled sins

Hello Frederic, Bosch’s triptych has always been this overwhelming, chaotic mirror of human frailty, and you managed to distill its sheer weight into a single, rushing descent. The way the pull of enchanted pleasure makes us abandon the very paradise we still grieve for. It left me sitting thinking about the heavy toll of our illusions. Blessings, Daniel

- Deeply described ... I can see it clearly and distinctly ... a (colorful) masterpiece by the artist - Without seeing the picture it can feels as a drama ... painted with charcoal pencil / black and gray - Great poem, Frederic :) - hugs
