The Garden
The morning sunlight washed across me
like a ripple crossing a pond
awakening my senses to the garden where my life is
today, I'll sit where flowers grow
and inhale each fragrant scent in thought
to free my burdens and listen in silence to the wind
I'll allow my heart to feel young again,
dream of time forgotten, when I ran through
lush green meadows conquering the world
hoping to find treasure
I hold these memories close
so, I may read them in my years of gray
when tears fall from crossing sacred ground
that is my life
the solitude, I've come to know
the struggles and sadness
moments when I found paradise
when I caressed the face of love
and flew with eagle's wings,
to places where imagination and reality fought
washing my beaten body onto the empty shores
of loneliness
seeking refuge from my own illusions
I found a garden where my soul can rest
where my mind dances crossing time touching rainbows and wishes
as I hear the birds sing and the humming of bee's wings,
each search for what they need
I find comfort in this universal desire, to live
to see the magic in all things
and remember before I leave this garden
I've found the treasures I searched for
and placed them in the lonely spaces of my heart
where they give me pause to smile
to say thank you, for my journey through this garden
it was worth seeing in color
