The Friend Indeed

A friend in need; a friend indeed A friend without greed, sows the seed Growing the other, like a reed A friend in need; a friend in deed The man knows not his need The friend sees and takes the lead A friend indeed; a friend during need As a veritable feed Meets the hen’s desperate need A friend in deed; a friend in need Before, during and after need The example of unconditional deed A friend indeed, one of good breed As beautiful as a golden bead On the neck of a lovely kid A friend in deed; a friend indeed A friend who won’t mislead Nay, not for a selfish need A friend who won’t be timid Rebukes the other’s misdeed And points a better deed A friend who does a misdeed But is ready to take heed Yielding to the reproof creed If we learn from the Lord’s creed About the friend indeed And how to be so in deed Here’s a truth we can’t shield: We will be friends in deed And won’t be the same indeed
