Common Loon Breeding adult

THE FORLORN LOON The sound of the forlorn loon Came hauntingly across the bay Shining near bright as day In the sky was a huge white moon When I approached the tiny creek Where I knew the loon would be I wondered why a creature such as he Would be one I'd take time to seek I felt as though the mournful sound This bird continued to make Caused my heart to begin to ache It was as if he wanted to be found I found this great bird tangled In a massive group of reeds I immediately saw to his needs Since his body was becoming mangled I freed him from the trap he was in And watched as he flew away Because I heard his forlorn sound that day Though I never saw the loon again 21 September 2018 For the contest sponsored by Dear Heart

I seem to be able to compile a story --- usually total fiction --- and it read like truth. The fact is, if I should discover a loon trapped as the one described in the poem, I certainly would set it free. I don't know where these thoughts come from, but I'm glad they come. Thank you so much for your support .

Thanks, Mike! I love birds too. Rural Georgia offers an abundance of varied birds and I keep a supply of birdseed on hand and a homemade feeding station well stocked at all times. I appreciate your support and comments. Be Blessed!

Thanks, Tom! I'm not fond of this form of poetry, but it is what was asked for so I tried to comply. As the old saying goes, "We shall see what we shall see".
