The Footfalls of Fate

The footfalls of Fate;
pursue love and hate,
through the echoes of silence.
Yet leave surreal
footprints hearts can feel;
tracking peace or violence.
Time creeps up on you;
and nothing you do
can alter its progression.
Fate leads, you follow,
it chews, you swallow;
even dregs of depression.
Each misplaced footfall
or muted miscall;
marks the trail that dreams pursue.
Fate forges a path,
while luck does the math;
but that first step's up to you.
You face Fate blindly;
wicked or kindly,
lavish or ugly and stark.
Fate is seldom fair
as it plays out there;
like a shadow in the dark.
