The Football Game of the Century

The Football Game of the Century

By Elton Camp

So now it’s over and Alabama won
But was it really all that much fun?

How silly it is, I just have to mention
To give a child’s game such attention

Rather, it makes me ask the reason why
Sports in general so many folks glorify

They act as it is their very fondest dream
To measure their self-worth by some team

How much better off society would be
If, of sports fanaticism, we became free

Many serious injuries to players does bring
And from it, corrupt gambling does spring

When I hear “Roll Tide,” I will merely shrug
Far as I’m concerned football is only humbug

I enjoyed reading your poetry this afternoon Elton. I hope to be able to read a lot more of your writing in this new year of 2012. Love, Carol
