The Flower and the Flame

I am a flower, you are a flame.
When I look at you, you shine bright like the sun,
You make my heart run,
Faster and faster, the closer you came.
Nearer and nearer, until we finally touch.
And I only feel… pain?
While my heart had felt love, it’s now met with confusion
How can you hurt so much?
You are so full of warmth and beauty,
Like a reflection of the sun,
Glistening off of a ruby.
While the sun provides life to all that grows
I now see you are not like the sun.
You lure in with beauty and the sweet words you compose.
Once you’ve taken hold, there is no way to run.
You deceive and burn all in your wake,
But when clouds come out and it starts to rain,
I begin to grow tall, while you start to break,
Because I am a flower, and you are a flame.
