Notes About The Poem

The national debt came to mind when I heard the quantity of flood waters left by Matthew. This poem is the result. I don't know how much area this water covered; just thought it was worth the analogy.

The Flooding Caused By Matthew

The flooding caused by Matthew
If I understood the news
Left large amounts of water
Enough to change my views

At least six trillion gallons
Of flood water in it's wake
A choking amount of moisture
More than we should have to take

Matthew caused by nature
Nature did what it would do
To bring this choking flooding
To the likes of me and you

I think there's a correlation
Of this flooding to the debt
Debt more than three times gallons
Hard to believe and yet

Debt not caused by nature
But by the government of man
By so many wanting everything
And getting what they can

Don't care where money comes from
If needed will print more
Will do a lot on credit
So someone else can own the store

Give aid back to the countries
Who loaned us a little dough
Pay interest on what they loaned us
Charge none on what we sow

Somehow, this makes no sense to me
But does to congressmen who care
Who can vote themselves a pay raise
Of borrowed money when they dare

The flood of debt is rising
There is drowning in its wake
Replacing congress just might help
At least change who's on the take
