The Flicker of Her Appearance
(for: Luna, the Goddess of the Moon)
From the crest of my hills
I still notice
The flicker of her appearance
O, Luna! Luna!
My strange one
The awesome goddess
That makes her abode
Beyond the sky –
O, she comes
On the shy wings
Of the evening lightning
Bearing a retinue of eternal beauty –
A most awesome goddess!
Alas! fate fakes her face
In a brief exit –
Still I could discern
The flicker of her appearance –
& the maidens still await her entry
Beyond my Niger caves
With hearts fervent for the fragrance
Of her morning dew.
