The Flame

Imagine sitting in front of a cozy hearth,
emitting a heat that warms
your heart and soul.

It is so soothing.
A gathering place of friends and family.
The mantle, a place of honor
for pictures and trophies alike.

It can offer a quiet, romantic getaway,
a couple in love,
the heat of their love
compares only to the coals within,
snuggling in a tinder embrace
against the cold outside.

It lends a place to unwind
after a long day.
To hallucinate within it's blaze,
mesmorized by it's blue-green light,
hypnotized by it's smoke.

It can also destroy.
It starts slow and menacing
and quickly congraflates into
an all consuming monster.
Everything, gone in a flash.
It civilized mankind
and it will destroy it.
