The Fisherman Meets the Fish
I reeled him firmly from
the deck
line loose
then jerking back
hitting the plank
he flopped and flipped
if only for a little bit
was then i noticed
three lines left hanging
from his gasping mouth
(previous attempts at meals)
he looked at me intently-
frozen with fear
i stood staring for a while
carefully removing the lines
like a surgeon seized with passion
looking into his eye
lifting him with gentle hands
(though slimy he was.)
placed him back into the lake
so he could see another day.
