The First Kiss

In the dim light your arms reach out to me, head tilted to receive my kiss. Our lips touch, and there is the soft warmth of summers thunder in my chest. The dream is real! The impossible exists, yet it can't be true. Your body lifts upward, and I know you are on your toes to reach me. Excitement pounds in my head.. Our lips part, yet we remain in firm embrace. I cannot speak, or breathe. Afraid, that in the next instant you'll be gone, the dream over. I hear the sounds of night. A distant car, a movement in another room. I'm aware of your breathing. The sound of happiness in your voice so close to my ear. I kiss the smoothness of your face, and your eyes close. I seal them with a kiss and I am overwhelmed, my joy complete!
