The Fingers On Your Hands

All your body's limbs
   obey your brain's commands
But the closest thing to YOU you've got
are the fingers on your hands

You write with them
   your thoughts so deep
Erase the ones
   you do not keep

You sketch and draw with them
   realia dead and alive
Interpreting the world you see
through the prism of your eyes

You play music with them
   violin, clarinet
piano and the horn
to express what's deep inside you
      your feelings as they're born

Of all the limbs you have, none but the fingers
reveal innermost thoughts and feelings, make them linger

The fingers help release all that beauty within in so many ways. I feel bad for those that cannot use them or have none. Though I guess they learn other ways to perform. Good penning made me ponder thoughts :) hugs

Thank goodness for a thumb and every finger, and hope that my feeling in them will always linger. I like the simplicity of this poem yet the absolute necessity that each one remains tact. Hugs and blessings Jennifer.

You know, I've probably offended readers who've lost their fingers. Hadn't thought of that, but your comment aroused me. Thanks, Jennifer. Cheers, Gershon

Notice I called them 'the fingers on your hand.' My wife is from the Ukraine. In the Russian language, the word for fingers and toes is the same. Looks like my wife has rubbed off on me a bit. LOL. Thanks, Caren

The hand and the fingers can reveal so much, so does the palm of your hand, nice poem.

Hey, thanks for the interesting comment, Pixie. I didn't even think of all the intricacies of reading palms. Cheers, Gershon
