The Feelings of the New Year
THE FEELINGS OF THE NEW YEAR
To my tired mind I couldn’t make it clear
In variedly spent old life what could be new
I’d look forward to in the coming New Year
Or what would change for me and for you.
Maybe I would get up in morning a bit early
Go for leisurely stroll on the serene sea shore
See the golden new sun rise in the scarlet sky
Feel the colors of youth I haven’t felt before.
Maybe I would slowly walk in the green garden
I haven’t gone awhile although it’s just next door
See how in twilight hours the new leaves glisten
Feel the luster of youth I haven’t felt before.
Maybe I would wander alone in a deserted park
When I did this last I wouldn’t know for sure
See the full moon spread blue dust on night dark
Feel the touch of youth I haven’t felt before.
Maybe I would sit by the window at cold sunset
On some remote summer days of the New Year
Read a book of poems of an unknown new poet
Feel the passion of youth I haven’t felt before.
Maybe I would hold your hands look in the eyes
For they seemed drifting away not near anymore
See from the dim depth new glitters of joy rise
Feel the sense of fulfillment I haven’t felt before.
