The Fear That Is Holding Women Back

So many women I know are freaked out by germs,
And I lay the blame on the advertisers,
Who will do anything to push the product,
With 99% of their tricks not dirt or germ free.

It does not register with them that children,
Are kept off the park,
Because they played on a women's fear,

Do they not think that maybe a healthy immune system
Needs a daily dose of good clean dirt,
Not to mention the fun that goes with the rolling in it.

Hell No,
They even put kids in their adds,
And wonder why the fear is spreading,
Faster than germs ever did.

Of course, the politicians should be sharing the blame,
As they gave the advertising agencies free licence,
To create carnage and tell lies with impunity,
And let women wrap their kids in cotton wool,
And spend more money on being germ free,
Than on eating healthy.

I live in hope the day is not too far away,
When someone brings a law suit against the advertisers,
For encouraging the fear,
Before men too want to be germ free,
And there is nothing left in the garden,
But weeds.

Hey, David, I see a worthy message on this poem already. Just pitching in too to agree - well needed message. Germs are everywhere! A life lived in extreme fear of our surrounds is greatly limited in quality. This and a dozen of yours I've read this evening are gorgeous, ernest. They show your conciousness. Thank you for your beaut poems.

Very kind of you to say so, Jasmine. I was an early childhood teacher for 30 years and Self published a book called 'Suffer the Little Children''. I was so lucky growing up in era when children were expected to scrape their knees and get their clothes muddy. Now life is such a fish bowl for them and places to kick a ball are limited. We have three children in mid to late twenties and a 15 month grandson, who have got it better than most. Thanks again, appreciate your comments. Best regards David in NZ

There used to be restrictions on advertising in New Zealand. Now there are almost none. Every add seems to have a child in it. Fortunately I have other interests besides TV. I was an early childhood teacher for nearly 30 years and I hate the exploitation of children. Thanks again for reading. Hope all is well with you. Regards David.
