The Fear
A simple task, as easy chore
The sudden slamming of a door.
Darkness...
The chill of fear slowly creeps in on silent feet.
Unable to see through the blackness.
The smell of damp, mold and mildew.
Cold air surrounds you, glides over your skin.
Sounds muted in the heavy silence.
A scurry, thump, slither, tap.
Did you hear? What was that?
Breath catches in your tightened throat,
You cannot breathe.
The touch of sharp teeth, nibbles and bites.
Skin crawls, hair stands on end.
Cold sweat tickles your fear sensitive skin.
Frozen in place, you cannot move.
A screech, then a creak beside you.
A thin sliver of sunlight
Up and out, you escape.
This time...
