The Fall of The First Republic

When freedom defers its justice,
    A fearful republic becomes
        Impotent to expedite.
                                             Has our constitutional complexity
                                                 Created a logjam, where judgement
                                                     Can't see any light?

It appears wealth can wield power
                       To its harness, as privileged
                           Reins steer beyond the poverty.
All the while screaming about
    Absolute freedom, while denouncing
        Absolute accountability.

Now most would agree that our
Structure, has been a few centuries-long
                                    Work-in-progress to create.
Yet like most buildings, the labors
                                                       Are time-consuming, while their
Demolition is a much faster fate.

In this case though, there's
    Been a steady erosion, chipping
        Away at foundations placed along.
And while the frame & facade may
                                Appear standing, the interior decor
May be empty & all wrong.
