The Faces of Friends
I look around
and I see the faces watching
worried faces
faces of friends
of people who care
I look back
and fake a smile
in their direction
but they see through it
my mask is no disguise
a kiss is blown in my direction
an attempt to lift my spirits
but I sit in silence
waiting for the day to end
the final bell rings
and I gather my stuff
in a hurry to be home
I look up
and notice my surroundings
I recognize familiar faces
the watching faces
of people who care
they pull me in
and hold me close
letting me know
it’s going to be okay
I can’t let people get to me
I can’t let rumors
hold me down
I have plenty of people
to back me up
to pick me up again
when ever I fall down
but most of all
they tell me
that even though it’s hard
and it often seems like hell
life really does continue to go on
