The word 'pupil' comes from a Latin word that means "girl," "doll," or "puppet." The pupil of someone else's eye is like a mirror where one can see a tiny image of oneself.

eye to eye

Listen to poem:
Eye said: "To be loved one must first learn to love oneself." Pupil said reflecting: "I'll look for someone just like you and me." "One who wears a daisy chain of forget-me-nots, blue." "For loving eyes see eye to eye, true."
