The Eyes Have It

“Beautiful young people are accidents of nature;
but beautiful old people are works of art.” - Eleanor Roosevelt

Experience soaks in
And mixes with
Internal chemistry
The personality distills
And slowly seeps to the surface
With age

I see youth -
Beautiful at a glance
Then I look into the eyes
And see the alchemy there

The sneer; the fear
Secretly buried in the soul;
Private joy and compassion
Cannot hide behind the eyes for long

As Time erodes the body
So does Time
Uncover one’s truth
