Listen to poem:
in a world of chaos and disparity i but strive for order, peace and serenity and prefer not to put words to how i feel i'm not one for brooding or drama though i've been known in my day to be passionate, even wild and impatient with the years i've managed to harness the cauldron of energy i nurture down deep inside still, to be honest, i don’t like to look in the mirror i fail to understand where the years have gone i shiver at facing the inevitable truth that i could have pursued my dreams with more persistence and could have done so much more with my life in my eyes i see the tinge of failure and sadness the flame of passion withered with disappointment the regret of having ultimately taken time for granted i see less of what i have done and more of what i could have done i see an emptiness that makes me sad i see time slipping through my fingers i realize it’s a warped vision that’s cynical and out of focus but i can’t help but hate the sadness i see in the mirror AP: Honorable Mention 2022, Honorable Mention 2023 Submitted on August 5, 2023 for LET THERE BE VOICE sponsored by JOHN ANDERSON - 2nd place and on January 14, 2023 for BRIAN STRAND CONTEST NO.1170 sponsored by BRIAN STRAND Originally posted on December 24, 2022

Hi Line thank you for visiting my poetry page. Hope your Christmas Day was Happy because you sound sad. Most of us at some stage in our lives hate mirrors, as they tell us the truth. However, you have a book published, probably more than one, so there is something great you have done, and you post the most amazing poetry on poetry soup, and fellow poets love and respect you. A New Year is starting with many opportunities, tell the mirror exactly who you are and who you want to be. Hugs Jen.

Thanks, Jennifer. No need to worry. I'm not actually sad. I just 'honour' all my moods. Warmest wishes to you and yours for the holiday season ~

You are so right, Line: All of a sudden time runs out and there is not enough time left for new hopes and dreams. Having no children brings that sharply into focus for me especially at Christmas. Thanks for remembering me and stopping by my page today. Merry Christmas, SuZ

You have touched the deepest chord in my being with this one, Line. I too see the sadness in my eyes -- and yet continue to work, often furiously, on completing a lifelong project.... within sight now (not poetry!) ... but there could have been so much more, and I know it. May God have mercy on us!! Hugs, Gershon
