The Exorcism

A. W. Nutter

Plagued with a cancerous infection
Tempting the spirit, devouring the mind
Experiences dividing the outward reflection
Which personification will the flesh be defined

The hymns they sang still resonate at night
Their hands reminding him of being defiled
Believing they could make Satan take flight
Cringing as they touched this naked child

Sadistic pleasures creating mental chains
As the fanatics invoked their incantations
Vacant eyes revealing my sinful stains
They Give up on God's abomination

Struggling to adorn the robes of normality
Fighting the shadows and the demonic seed
Exorcising the demon a religious fallacy
By the portal of death will the child be freed

Anthony, I was raised Catholic but don't believe in exorcism. This poor child probably had a mental illness. Your last line is right on target! Love, Carolyn
