The Escape Artists

(1 Tim 6: 19)

Look Into The Painting
and What Do You See?
Is It A Destination
Or Is It A Journey?

Is It Where You’ve Been
or Where You’d Like To Go?
Now, Only You Can Say
What Picture(s) To You Shows

And What Does The Picture(s)
To You Means
Whether Just Drawn-Out-Drama
Or Your Most Desireful Dreams?

See, The Things We Do… Or Create
Such As Music, or Sculpture’s Shapes
A Mansion, A Yacht or Goals To Chase
Are Objects We Use… To Escape …

… From The Tedious
Dismal or Mundane
We Escape To Movies
Books or Scenes-In-Frames

… From Dilemmas or Bored
or Biased or Mistakes
Yes, Mankind Must Escape
(or at least – take a break)

So An Artist Paints
and A Writer Writes
But Both Travel On
Adventure–Fueled Flights

Whether Art of Painting
Or Music Or Poetry
Somewhere There’ll Be
The Topic Territory of … Free

and I’ve Seen Many A Painting
Where I Wanted To Be There
and I’ve Read Many A Poem
That Made Me Unction In Prayer

Read of Promises & Feelings
& Wishes In Whispers Heard
and I’ve Been Whisked Away
… To Escape To Written Words

& I’ve Seen Paintings So Exquisite
That I Could Close Eyes & Cry
‘Cause I Wanted To Be There
Instead of What Was ‘Round My Eyes …

and I’ve Heard Music So Beautiful
That I Play It Over & Over Again
& It Takes Me To Places Sunny
or Moonlit Paths or Symphony-Rains

and Vivid Imaginations
That Come Across So Wonderful …
That The Mind’s Eye & Insight
… Just Reached Out & Pulled

And When I, As A Viewer Escape
Into An Artist’s Volunteered Estate
I Remember The Moment & Silence-Space
Their Offered Touch & Personal Tastes …

… of Wave-Tossed Ships On Seascapes
of Flower-Garden Picnics Pretty Landscapes
& For A Second & For My Sighing-Soul’s Sake
I Run Away & Leave … and Escape

So Until Fantasy & Reality Changes Their Place
Until Beauty Transforms Every Ugly Thing’s Face
Until Brave Overpowers Fears & Makes It Embrace
Until Life From Death … Finally Escapes
Yes Until All My Dreams Come Alive … & Takes Shape

Outside I’ll Watch As Inside … Escapes
