The Empty Room

The room beckons to me,
Its silence speaks to me,
There’s a volume in its emptiness,
A mystery in its void.

The past is revealed,
The hidden is shown,
I see children in a meadow,
Playing in the embrace of twilight.

There’s a sudden darkness,
It devours the children,
They’re gone to the deep,
Their cries pierced through me.

The meadow has become a room,
A room that bleeds for the lost souls,
A room that chooses to be empty,
To mourn the taken.

Tears stream down my eyes,
Now I understand why the room echoes at night,
Now I understand why they say the land is cursed,
Now I understand why I’d been summoned.
