The Empty Chair
You’d have ordered coffee
I still have hot tea
On this table number char*
My chair bears finger nail marks
for every date you forgot…
And when you came
with an apologetic bouquet
no hug, ear on the phone
eyes on the watch and
fingers on the coffee mug.
Were you even there?
I have waited …
long enough to see
the lone plastic rose wilt.
The checkered table cloth
is now devoid of tears, and
I no more need to wear
Sun glasses indoors.
The tea too,
doesn’t get cold any longer
despite the empty chair beside me.
