The Edge

"The Edge"

Beneath the surface
freedom flows
above the watermark
secrets shared
with the sky
only the ghost
knows

conversations of a man
on the edge of life

pondering ponds
the loud silent drowned pasts
and baptismal rites
spiriting water memories
rippling an entire
Ocean
home

“We are like islands in the sea,
separate on the surface
but connected in the deep.”

“Little islands are all large prisons;
one cannot look at the sea
without wishing
for the wings of a swallow.”

“Once it happened, as I lay awake at night, that I suddenly spoke in verses, in verses so beautiful and strange that I did not venture to think of writing them down, and then in the morning they vanished; and yet they lay hidden within me like the hard kernel within an old brittle husk.” Hermann Hesse, Steppenwolf

“Stone walls do not a prison make, Nor iron bars a cage; Minds innocent and quiet take That for an hermitage; If I have freedom in my love And in my soul, then I am free, Angels alone, that soar above, Enjoy such liberty.”
