THE ECHO RETURNS NOT

THE ECHO RETURNS NOT

Even if it’s poetic wording from the start
When a message is delivered with feeling
One expects some sort of echo in return
For a response or answer one may yearn
But without such, any soul needs healing
The absence of any echo hurts the heart

Despite lessons that were taught in school
About sound waves and that physics stuff
There are chambers designed as anechoic
And to bear the silence one must be stoic
Walls absorbing it all like a carpet of fluff
And for any echo, one would feel the pull

With no reply, was anything truly received
A modest need for at the least, one word
To be sure that a meaning was understood
Otherwise the sound of knocking on wood
At least be assured that it was really heard
By even a slight echo, one can be relieved
